In 2005, Wayne County had a household population of 110,000 - 55,000 (50 percent) females and 55,000 (50 percent) males. The median age was 37.3 years. Twenty-six percent of the population were under 18 years and 13 percent were 65 years and older.

For people reporting one race alone, 97 percent were White; 2 percent were Black or African American; less than 0.5 percent were American Indian and Alaska Native; less than 0.5 percent were Asian; less than 0.5 percent were Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander, and less than 0.5 percent were Some other race. Less than 0.5 percent reported Two or more races. One percent of the people in Wayne County were Hispanic. Ninety-six percent of the people in Wayne County were White non-Hispanic. People of Hispanic origin may be of any race.

HOUSEHOLDS AND FAMILIES: In 2005 there were 42,000 households in Wayne County. The average household size was 2.6 people.

Families made up 70 percent of the households in Wayne County. This figure includes both married-couple families (56 percent) and other families (13 percent). Nonfamily households made up 30 percent of all households in Wayne County. Most of the nonfamily households were people living alone, but some were comprised of people living in households in which no one was related to the householder.
